Quality bamboo products industry can now be considered as one of the engines for generating investments and employment, said Director Diosdado P. Cadena, Jr. of the Department of Trade and Industry, Iloilo Provincial Office.
Director Cadena said during the PIA-CATV program that the finest Ilongo products made of bamboo materials are fast gaining international recognition.
"This is the rallying point as to why we push for the conduct of the third Kawayan Market to affirm the positioning of Iloilo as the bamboo capital of the country," Cadena said.

The third Kawayan Market with the theme "Kawayan Sikat Na" is scheduled to be held November 13-19, 2006 at the Fountain area of the Robinsons Place in Iloilo City.
The annual event, Cadena said, will exhibit the improved products of the bamboo industry of Iloilo alongside with the Hablon Fashion Show featuring the designs of PJ Arañador and five other local designers.
During the week-long, exhibitors will showcase not just bamboo furniture and furnishings but the ready products of key players of the OTOP or One Town One Product of each municipality.

OTOP is a priority program of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo that calls for the development and promotion of products of each municipality that have competitive advantage.
Cadena also said during the PIA-CATV program that around d 36 exhibitors will join in the Kawayan Market, that will showcase their most competitive and current product lines and designs which the public should not miss during the five-day activity.
