Ramos: Make present airport site Panay's gateway
Former President Fidel Ramos suggested that the present Iloilo Airport site in Mandurriao district be converted into a high-end project that could be used as a gateway for business in the entire Panay Island.
The Iloilo Airport site in Mandurriao would be sold in a public auction once the new airport in Cabatuan-Sta. Barbara area becomes operational next year.
As proposed, the Mandurriao site would be converted into an economic hub.
Ramos observed that there should be urban planning and economic management in the conversion of the area. He said other aspects should be considered not only tourism.
To note, several companies and corporations have already expressed intentions to acquire the property.
Ramos said the area should be utilized as a venue for presentation of culture not only of Iloilo City but the entire Western Visayas.
The former president said the economic upsurge in China was realized because of the planning and long foresight for its future economic activities. China's economy is fast moving like Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia.
