'Merry Christmas' promised to barangay chiefs for 'survey' results
The holiday spirit is on particularly in Iloilo City barangays with election-fever now sweeping the community.
With Christmas nearing, The News Today (TNT) got information of what started as coffee-shop talks that laid down elaborate promises cum plans of candidates vying for the coveted seats in City Hall and the City Council.
For instance, barangay captains reached by TNT disclosed offers of a councilorable for barangay projects in exchange for survey results that will place him in the topmost position.
The barangay chiefs in a recent gathering got the group's sentiments on the matter with those coming from the City Proper District reportedly out to do the survey and correspondingly, deliver the "number one" result as asked.
However after some 'serious deliberations' and opinions shared by others from outside the City Proper area, the barangay captains were said to have backed out from the offer.
Should any survey be done, one TNT source said, it will not be for the benefit of the councilorable but for the barangay itself.
"Kanugon man tani sang tug-an nga proyekto bilang pamaskua niya galing kay basi mabutang ang barangay sa alang-alang (The promised project for a Christmas present would have been very useful but then this might also compromise us)," another quipped with a smile.
Meantime, sure contenders in the Province of Iloilo are busy with party 'alignments and re-alignments' as party district leaders continue to await development from Metro Manila.
Edu Manzano for governor still hangs and haunts the province with the actor turned politician's local leaders reportedly busy making the rounds in Iloilo towns for an initial survey.
This, as Vice Governor Roberto Armada was said to have "warmly welcomed" Manzano's planned entry into the Iloilo political scene.
"The more the merrier," a Capitol observer said.
