SP finally declares Brgy Bolilao under state of calamity
It took almost two months for the Sangguniang Panlungsod to finally declare Purok Mainuswagon, Barangay Bolilao, Mandurriao under the "state of calamity." A fire hit the barangay last October 2, 2006 leaving a number of families homeless.
The declaration was made through a resolution authored by Councilor Merci Drilon-Garcia. City Social Welfare Office chief Claire Dignadice has since recommended to Mayor Jerry Treñas that the barangay be declared under the state of calamity.
But Dignadice's recommendation was forwarded to the Sangguniang Panlungsod only last December 4,2 006. The recommendation made by the social welfare officer was only acted Wednesday (December 6) by the city council.
The declaration of the barangay under the state of calamity will give their barangay the authority to spend their calamity fund. At the same time, this will also give the mayor's office the signal to allocate funds for the fire victims which is in form of cash.
Last October 2 fire in Purok Mainuswagon, totally burned 26 houses and partially burned three other houses. The fire also affected 205 individuals. The fire victims have long been asking for help from the city government other than the emergency relief assistance such as rice and easy to cook foods provided to them after the fire incident.
