School officials told to temper Christmas celebrations
All public school officials are being told to temper their Christmas celebrations amidst the suffering from the calamity by some people in other parts of the country.
Department of Education (DepEd) Regional Office 6 Information Officer Violinda Gonzales said that although she has not come into grasp of any formal guideline issued by their high officials on the celebration of Christmas parties, the school principals and teachers are expected to do the same.
"Let's temper our celebrations because people are suffering," Gonzales contended. She referred to the Bicol towns that have been heavily devastated by super-typhoon Reming that led Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to declare the country under the state of national calamity.
Gonzales said that having simple celebration at this time of year could not take away the joyous spirit of having Christ born in this earth in a lowly manger.
For all DepEd pupils their Christmas break begins on Dec. 23 until Jan. 3, 2007 when they have to be back in schools.
