Christmas bonus for local government employees assured
Employees of local government units (LGUs) nationwide will receive soon Christmas bonuses which their counterparts in the national government began receiving last week.
Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said this will help civil servants concerned meet expenditures, particularly during the Yuletide season.
"We're awaiting issuance of the Department of Budget and Management circular covering release of funds for this purpose," he said.
Earlier, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo issued Administrative Order 164 ordering the release of P6,000 Christmas bonus for all personnel of national government, government-owned or controlled corporations and government financial institutions.
She said eligible recipients are either hired or permanent, temporary, casual or on contractual basis and who have rendered at least four months of service as of November 30 this year.
This bonus was given on pro-rated basis depending on length of service civil servants concerned rendered.
Release of funds for such bonus is covered under DBM Circular 2006-4.
