Fire incidents normally occur during New Year's eve because of the use of firecrackers.
The checking of firetrucks is only one of the concerns of the bureau for New Year's eve celebration. Apart from the firetrucks, the bureau is currently doing information dissemination regarding the proper handling of firecrackers.
Barnueza said parents should ask their children not to play or lit big firecrackers which could endanger their lives and limbs. Parents must let their children understand the dangers that firecrackers may bring to them.
Barnueza said children should also refrain from collecting unexploded firecrackers as it is the common cause of injuries.
Buyers are also warned to buy firecrackers only from authorized dealers. Some of the firecrackers sold in the streets contain much explosives while others have less. There are "pwitis" which explode even before it could reach the air, he said.
Firecrackers sellers are also advised to cover their stocks with a plastic and prepare a bucket of sand and water. The sand and water could help them put off the fire once it occur. Smokers are likewise urged not to throw their cigarette butts near the designated firecrackers zones.
