Release of oil spill claims resume
Distribution of oil-spill claims will resume tomorrow and Thursday amidst unresolved in-house squabble of top Guimaras personalities. With a total of 11,500 claimants in mind, the International Oil Pollution Compensation (IOPC) fund will continue with its job choosing Iloilo as venue for said distribution.
As such, Joe Nichols, IOPC Deputy Director disclosed of the checks ready for release stressing "we are not a political organization" and that the IOPC are bent on delivering its promised compensation.
Nichols made the statement over Bombo Radyo's Zona Libre alongside the announcement for the hundreds of claimants to be in the Iloilo Provincial Capitol for the two-day marathon check release.
Alongside the controversy ignited by the earlier check distribution in Guimaras that had two Guimaras personalities engaged in near-confrontation, the IOPC was also hounded by reported fraudulent claims.
Yet as Nichols explained, to date no such discovery was made nor verified even as he stressed that only legitimate claims will be paid and duly compensated. As far as the IOPC is concerned, he added, those claimants appearing on the verified list will get their respective checks.
