Fireman electrocuted to death in San Enrique
A fireman assigned in San Enrique, Iloilo lost his life to a freak accident moments before he was due for work early morning yesterday (Tuesday).
Town fire officials identified the victim as Fire Officer 1 Dennis Chaines of the San Enrique Fire Department. Unfortunately, his death caused by an unsecured power line connection stands as the only recorded incident in the town that went on high alert during the holidays. Chaines was electrocuted just outside his house in Calle Angeles, Poblacion Street.
In an interview, SPO3 Abraham Rizaldo told The News Today (TNT) that Chaines was last seen by family members about 5:30 a.m. as he was getting ready to report for duty. The victim appeared to have accidentally touched a clothesline that was attached to a live wire of the main power line. A sudden spark was seen by witnesses as the fallen fire officer got thrown off to the ground.
The 40 year-old victim was rushed to a hospital in nearby Passi City, some 5 kilometers away from the accident scene. He was however declared Dead On Arrival (DOA) by attending medical team with the visible signs of the electrocution showing on his burnt hands.
Incidentally, San Enrique was among the Iloilo towns with zero-incident since the Christmas and New Year's celebration. The town police under Senior Inspector Roger Arañador has since made the rounds throughout San Enrique calling on the community's support for a safe and peaceful holiday celebration.
Chaines' death shocked colleagues and town officials particularly with his cause of death known to be among the main concerns of the fallen fire officer every time his group would respond to a fire call.
