CPU Varsity Debaters grab all Awards at debate tilt

The CPU Varsity Debating Team garnered all awards up for grabs (Best Speaker, Best Debater, Best Rebuttalist) competing against a team set up by the host college during the Filamer Christian College Student Republic (FCCSR) Week Celebrations friendly debate match held at Filamer Christian College Covered Gym in Roxas City on December 13, 2006.
The CPU team took the affirmative side of the proposition "Resolved that: The Philippines adopts a federal form of government" and was composed of Emmanuel Amistoso (BS Accty-3, College of Business and Accountancy) as the necessity speaker, May Joyce Galanto (BS Accty-4, CBA) as the practicability speaker, Jan Mitchell Magbal (BS ChE-3, College of Engineering) as the beneficiality speaker, and Andrea MacEachen (BS MedTech-1, College of Arts and Sciences) as the rebuttalist. The researchers were Charis Emmelynn Bautista (BS Accty-3, CBA), Saylor Job Caver (BS ME-3, CoE) and Ervin Balagosa (AHSE-2, College of Nursing). The team's adviser was Pastor Alfred Morales, a debater himself and the present CPUR Adviser and Chairperson of CPU Debate Organizing Committee. CPUR President Marvin Segura managed the team and facilitated the conduct of the friendship debate with the assistance of former CPUR President and now FCCSR Adviser Ptr. Ronald Parpa. The latter also served as moderator.
The debate contest started at 11 o'clock in the morning and ended at 1 o'clock in the afternoon. Before leaving FCC, CPU team paid a courtesy call to President Expedito Señeres, the college president of the host school. Upon arrival in Iloilo City, they also paid a courtesy call to CPU President Juanito Acanto, bringing with them the news of CPU's victory.
The formation of CPU Debaters' League, composed of debating team members from several colleges in CPU was considered a priority project of CPU Republic.
