2 towns to join Kasadyahan
Two municipalities from the southern part of Iloilo will join the forthcoming Kasadyahan Festival. They will add to the seven other tribes which will compete on January 27, 2007.
Kasadyahan Tribes Committee Chair Eden Deriada said the Tribu Saludan of Tigbauan and Tribu Bayluhay of San Joaquin will join this year's competition. The entries of each town are those groups which will win their respective festival.
Deriada said the two participating tribes have also adjusted to the guidelines set forth by the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation. Once a group is declared winner in their own town festival, the same group automatically represents the municipality to the Kasadyahan Festival.
Other than Tribu Saludan and Tribu Bayluhay, the Tribu Mandurriaonon, Pahinis de Lauaan of Antique, Tinuom of Cabatuan, Kahilwayan of Sta. Barbara, Saad of Leganes, Tultugan of Maasin and Pasidungod of San Miguel completes the list of the nine competing tribes of the Kasadyahan Festival. Last year's, winner was Tribu Tultugan.
Deriada added that this year, they encourage the participating tribes to use "indigenous musical instruments" such as bamboos, string, rattan, vines and dried vegetables. They have to have their own identity and they must get rid of the ati drumbeat to distinguish themselves from the ati-atihan.
There are still competing groups that will use drums and recorded musical soundtrack during their performance. Hopefully, the committee wants to slowly eliminate such practice. "It is better if the music is live and it has an impact," said Deriada.
