Ilonggo artists interpret the nude
In celebration of the National Arts Month, 28 Ilonggo artists have banded together for a group exhibit titled The Nude at the UPV Art Gallery, Iloilo City. The exhibit, from February 15 through March 2, 2007, includes paintings and sculptures and presents the Ilonggo artists' interpretation of the concept of nudity and their views on the human body as art subject.
Included in this exhibition are Angel Alegre, Lester Joey Amacio, Joe Amora, Czar Arro, Benji Belgica, Anthony Castillo, Edward Defensor, Rock Drilon, Angelo Duarte, Guijo Duenas, Shielo May Duterte, Edgar Ferraris, Art Geroche, Harry Mark Gonzales, Katrina Gonzales, Ronie Granja, Joey Esturis, Jeline Laporga, Jomarie Moleta, Mike Moleta, Rheo Nepomuceno, Yani Rose Noble, Anya Obafial, Fred Orig, Pierre Patricio, Alan Rivera, Fundador Tan and PG Zoluaga.
The Nude is deemed a trail-blazing show because it is the first major exhibit by Ilonggo artists ever on the subject. The show is an attempt to cultivate the appreciation of the nude as art form as well as to desensitize the wary Ilonggo art audiences on the use of the unclothed human body as art subject.
The exhibit is supported by the UPV Chancellor's Committee on Culture and the Arts and curated by Martin Genodepa. Artists' reception is on February 15, 5:30 PM.
