Ulap to serve dismissal, suspension orders, anyone?
The League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) headed by Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas favors the idea of having the dismissal and suspension orders of government officials coursed through the Union of Local Authorities in the Philippines (Ulap) instead of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Treñas said this is to avoid "unnecessary conflict" among the government officials who are subject of the orders and the DILG and the police.
Talks about the proposal on channeling the orders against elected government officials through the Ulap came out as an aftermath of the recent Iloilo provincial capitol siege.
However, Treñas said nothing is definite about the proposal yet as it is still under discussion.
To note, DILG is mandated to execute orders of suspension or dismissal of public officials coming from the Office of the Ombudsman.
The Philippine National Police which is under the DILG is usually tapped to implement said orders.
