NSO bares Guimaras included in the Unicef funded survey
The province of Guimaras is included among the 19 provinces and five cities in the country in the Sub-Regional Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (SR-MICS) being conducted by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
NSO Iloilo and Guimaras Provincial Statistician Nelida Amolar said that SR-MICS started last February 12 and will end on March 2, 2007. Aside from Guimaras, other provinces in Western Visayas covered by this survey are Capiz and Antique.
Amolar said the three provinces are among the identified areas in the country for the Sixth Country Programme for Children (CPC-6) being implemented by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The conduct of SR-MICS is funded by the UNICEF and aims to collect data on employment, education, working children, economic status, birth registration, antihelminitics, salt iodization, vitamin A and iron intake, HIV/AIDS, hunger, children's rights and discipline, and maternal and child health specifically pre-natal care breastfeeding, and immunization.
Around 31 data collectors composed of NSO personnel and hired statistical researchers, said Amolar, are fielded in Guimaras for this particular survey which will be conducted to at least 40 sample households in each of the 39 sample barangays.
Amolar said to prepare enumerators for the SR-MICS, related training was conducted last February 5 to 9 at the Guimaras Provincial Capitol in San Miguel, Jordan.
SR-MICS is administered through personal interviews using two forms - household questionnaire and individual women's questionnaire. Any eligible respondents are expected to answer the household questionnaire while women aged 15 to 49 years old are expected respondents in the second questionnaire.
Amolar said the final result of the survey is expected to be released on July 24, 2007.
