RDC moves to implement strive 2
The Regional Development Council (RDC) moved to approve the implementation of STRIVE (Strengthening the Implementation of Basic Education in Selected Provinces of the Visayas), Phase II during its last RDC meeting held in Bacolod City.
According to the DEPed, STRIVE is supported by AusAID designed to provide assistance in strengthening basic education in selected provinces in the Visayas and provide basic education opportunities to out-of-school children and youth. It has for its project components a school-based management support system, human resource development system, learning resource materials development system, and project management.
STRIVE was first implemented in Bohol and Northern Samar from October 2005 to May 2006 for Stage 1. For the second stage, Negros Occidental will be added for the project duration of 36 months, covering the period July 2007 to June 2010.
The Social Development Committee that sponsored the resolution for the approval of Stage 2 of STRIVE, said Negros Occidental was identified as the recipient because it has the biggest enrollment but low performance in terms of cohort survival, dropout and completion rates and the National Achievement Test Results.
The Project will be in support of the Basic Education sector Reform Agenda (BESRA) of the DEPed. (PIA6)
