PRO 6 revitalizes Council of Community Elders
Retired Police Senior Supt. Vicente Neptuno, who represents the Law Enforcement Sector, and Mr Alfonso Tan, representing the Business Sector, have been unanimously elected Chairman and Vice Chairman of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 Council of Community Elders last March 7. The oath taking and induction of these newly-elected officers was set on March 27, 2007 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel.
The PRO 6 Council of Community Elders is an apolitical advisory and consultative body of the PRO 6 Regional Director on matters pertaining to peace and order and law enforcement. The then Chief of the Philippine National Police, Police Director General Hermogenes E Ebdane, Jr., conceptualized the creation of the Council in all Police Regional Offices down to the subordinate police units. The Council also serves as the channel of communication for citizen participation in the peace and order campaign of the government.
PRO 6 Regional Director Chief Supt. Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. praised and acknowledged the support and activeness of the officers and members of the group to all the programs/projects of the PNP as he took cognizance of the importance and effectiveness of the group.
Dulay, however, encouraged the new set of officers to welcomemore members to compose the already organized PRO 6 Council of Community Elders (CCE). Among the probable representations shall be coming from the general cross section of the community who can sway public opinion: the religious, socio-civic groups, the academe and retired military or police officers and from other sectors like transportation, social services and others.
The top cop also underlined the relevance of the CCE to the PNP and the community in resolving conflicts, promoting peace and order, enhancing relationships with the other pillars of the criminal justice system, reinforcing crime prevention on the drive against organized crimes, and strengthening crime watch reporting system.
Other members who were present during the conference were the following original members of the Council of Community Elders: ret. prosecutor Vicente Aragona, representing the Prosecution Sector; ret. judge Nicholas L. Monteblanco, ret. judge Leonardo Lozano, both representing Judiciary; Dr. Juanito A. Acanto, representing the Academe; Mr Manuel Villa, representing the Civic Sector; ret. Col. Romeo S. Fernandez, representing the Military.
