Police chiefs told to prevent election-related violence
Police units in the region were told initiate measures to prevent or minimize violence related to this year's political exercise.
Chief Supt. Wilfredo Dulay Sr., director of Police Regional Office 6, directed all field commanders of PNP units in the region to institute pro-active and aggressive measures like the holding of dialogue with concerned parties perceived to have the capacity to inflict violence.
Dulay also suggested to concerned police chiefs to seek wide public support from influential groups like the church, respected elders and the media to urge the candidates to honor the commitments for a peaceful elections.
Dulay also explained that in the event that an election-related violent incident happens within the area of responsibility, the concerned Chief of Police shall immediately institute aggressive measures that would lead to the identification, arrest, and prosecution of the suspects. Further, the concerned COP shall update the public through the media of the positive actions taken by the PNP to bring justice to the victims and to prevent the occurrence of similar incidents.
Dulay further stressed that as a matter of policy, the occurrence of an election related violence shall be taken against the efficiency of the concerned Provincial or City Director under the concept of Command Responsibility.
