Comelec to monitor admin campaign materials
The City Commission on Elections (Comelec) will intensify their campaign against the illegally posted campaign materials specifically those belonging to the administration party after they have already filed their certificates of candidacy over the weekend.
Comelec along with the Iloilo City Police Office will destroy and confiscate the streamers of candidates placed in non-Comelec designated areas. The campaign period for local candidates will start on March 30.
It was learned that among those streamers which are being watched belong to Cong. Raul Gonzalez Jr. and Atty. Eldrid Antiquera. Streamers of the two candidates are seen in the different parts of the city. Some of it can even be seen at the Iloilo Terminal Market where the City Comelec is located.
The streamers and posters of the administration party are being monitored because they have already filed their certificates of candidacy. Before, the joint PNP and Comelec Task Force could not detach their illegally posted streamers because they have no basis since they have not yet filed their certificates of candidacy.
Gonzalez's streamers printed with "Gonzalez Always" are visible in almost every barangay centers in the city since last year. While, Antiquiera's streamers came out few weeks ago. Antiquiera is a top ally of the Gonzalezes. He has been seeking for an elective position at the city council for several elections but did not make it.
Of the 15 candidates in the administration party, Gonzalez and Antiquera have the most number of streamers seen in the streets which are not listed as Comelec poster areas.
Weeks ago, the joint PNP and Comelec also confiscated campaign materials of the senatorial candidates both belonging to the administration and the Genuine Opposition.
