Act of desperation: ‘We are ready to fight this,’ Mosqueda says on disqualification raps
Retired Police Chief Superintendent turned mayoralty bet Restituto “Toto Boy” Mosqueda may have been caught off-guard by the disqualification case filed against him. Yet it was “shortlived” thus members of his legal team are now all set for any face-off with his political opponent, reelectionist Mayor Rene Cordero.
Principal players in the political drama in Estancia, Iloilo, the duo has since livened election scene in the province highlighted by Thursday last week’s signing of a peace covenant.
Attended by top officials of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) here, local police and Church representatives, both candidates vying for the town’s highest seat hugged the news anew courtesy of Cordero’s Petition for Disqualification.
“This is really an act of desperation that is also meant to harass me,” Mosqueda said when reached yesterday by The News Today (TNT) for comment. “But truth is on my side and we are ready to face them. My lawyers will take care of the legal battle and we are more than ready.”
As such, Mosqueda added, his desire to serve Estancia has “increased even more. I will not let this desperate move of Cordero affect our campaign and our supporters. More than ever, we will bring change in bad politics and bad governance in Estancia for the people deserve it.”
Yet the disqualification case came as a “surprise,” he acknowledged, particularly since it was only Thursday that both appeared for the Peace Covenant signing.
‘I don’t know about him but I went there with an open heart and open mind. I was most sincere when I affixed my signature in the Covenant. It was after all for the good of Estancia and our people. It only means that at that time Cordero was there, he was already working on this disqualification move. How sad that he played with everybody’s sincere intention to bring peace and honesty and goodwill to Estancia,” Mosqueda ended.
