PRO 6 nets 215 persons for illegal gambling
The illegal gambling activities in Western Visayas remain unabated despite intensified police operations which already yielded the arrest of 215 violators and filing of 70 cases for violation of the Anti-Illegal Gambling Law against these persons.
Based on the scoreboard of Regional Operations and Plans Division of Police Regional Office (PRO) 6, Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office leads in the accomplishment with 67 arrested persons, followed by Bacolod City Police Office with 46 arrested persons, Iloilo Police Provincial Office with 36, Aklan Police Provincial Office with 20, Capiz Police Provincial Office with 19, Iloilo City Police Office with 11, Antique Police Provincial Office with 6 and Guimaras Police Provincial Office with only 4 arrested persons. The Regional Crime Investigation and Detection Unit (RCIDU) 6 also helped out in the campaign with 6 arrested persons.
Chief Supt. Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. said that most of these illegal gambling activities are “First/Last Two”, “Daily Double”, and “STL” in the province of Iloilo.
“It is worthy to note that the arrests of bet collectors were made possible with the support of concerned citizens who fed our police with information regarding the illegal gambling activities in their area,” he quipped.
To recall, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 6 has created a Task Force (TF) and placed Senior Supt. Reynaldo S. Rafal, Deputy Regional Director for Operations, as the TF Commander, to run after illegal gambling operators in the region.
“We are confident to net the “big fish” (financiers) with the continued cooperation of the general public in our efforts to cleanse Western Visayas with illegal gambling activities,” Rafal said.
The PNP thru its Anti-Illegal Gambling Special Operations Task Force is working in coordination with other stakeholders to stop the illegal gambling activities in this part of the country.
“We have received information that STL bet collectors in Iloilo City are operating in the municipalities of Pavia, San Miguel, Oton and Leganes. That is why Senior Supt. Melvin G. Mongcal, Provincial Director of Iloilo Police Provincial Office, has already been directed to enhance the campaign against these persons who allegedly operating in the said towns,” Rafal ended.
