Hotels, resorts and restaurants beef up security
Ferrer
After some guests in three big hotels in Iloilo City received threatening phone calls, the Iloilo Convention and Visitors Bureau (ICVB) and the Iloilo Hotels Resorts and Restaurants Association (IHRRA) beefed up the security of their members by providing a seminar for their front desk personnel.
It is through them that information about and access to the guests' rooms go through, thus they need to know how to handle the situation, according to Robert Ferrer, IHRRA president. It was also Ferrer who conducted the seminar, which was held last April 21 at the Emilion Restaurant.
"The seminar aims to boost the security of our guests, properties and the employees," he said.
The move came after Department of Tourism 6 Regional Director Edwin Trompeta and the police met with the officers and members of the two groups to present the problems and actions they are taking. Mayor Jerry P. Treñas also informed them of the situation. "So from there, our action was to hold a seminar," Ferrer said. He added that in his seven years in Iloilo, this is the first time that such incidents happened.
This is the first seminar conducted by the two groups as regards security. Ferrer said that as far as IHRRA is concerned, there will be more seminars coming.
