Urban poor group to receive P40M grant
Iloilo City once again is a recipient of another international grant. This time it will be for the urban poor project in one of the city's relocation sites. The grant from the United Nations Habitat which is based in Nairobi, Kenya amounted to P40 million.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the fund will be channeled through the Peoples Homeless Foundation of the Philippines. The foundation has a chapter in Iloilo City. The fund will be used to upgrade urban poor projects in San Isidro, Jaro.
Treñas said the grant was obtained due to his initiative. It was then that the UN Habitat got the idea in helping the urban poor here. It is one of the grants that the city availed from the international community.
Meanwhile, Treñas said a philanthropist will donate 2.5 hectares of lot in Sooc, Mandurriao. The donor, however asked the chief executive not to reveal his name. The 2.5 hectares will accommodate some 228 houses. The donor also wants to apportion a half hectare for the livelihood program of the recipients.
