NPC assures no brownout on election day
With barely ten days left before the May 14 synchronized local and national elections, the National Power Corporation (NPC) assured enough power supply to its consumers especially to all electric cooperatives in the country.
NPC President Cyril del Callar said they have already made preparations relative to the upcoming elections. They even created Task Force Halalan to deal with the problems and concerns during and after the elections.
Del Callar was in Iloilo City yesterday for the ceremonial switch-on of NPC's Power Barge 101 and the launching of NPC ISO program in Panay.
Del Callar cited the importance of electricity during the election day as he assured that there would be enough power supply on that significant day in the country's history.
It can be noted that various means of election fraud may happen when power interruption occurs.
Del Callar said, the power barges, diesel plants and transmission lines will be secured in order to avert power outages.
Power supply is very important especially during the counting of votes.
In Panay Island, NPC supplies power to Iloilo Electric Cooperative I, I and III, Aklan Electric Cooperative, Antique Electric Cooperative, Capiz Electric Cooperative, Guimaras Electric Cooperative, and industrial firm Foremost Milling Company in Iloilo City.
Six of the towns in Iloilo province that gets their power supply from the different electric cooperatives are being considered to be placed under Comelec control should intense political rivalry continues. These are the towns of Estancia, ,San Joaquin, Ajuy, Lambunao, Janiuay and Igbaras and component city of Passi. Power Barge 103 is moored in Estancia.
Peace and order in the said towns are threatened due to the presence of communist rebels and other armed groups.
