City allots P110M for education programs
Over P110 million is intended for several programs and projects of public elementary and high schools in the city this year. Portion of the budget came from the Special Education Fund (SEF) for 2007 and surplus of last year's fund from the Iloilo City School Board
The SEF which amounted to P98,786,160 will be spent for personal services which include salaries of teachers, life and retirement premium, PhilHealth, state insurance, PERA and ACA, clothing allowance, year end bonus, cash gift, productivity pay, maternity pay, chalk allowance, honoraria of five Muslim teachers, traveling allowance of PTA federated president, president of teachers organizations, members of the Local School Board and secretariat.
The SEF budget is also allocated for the maintenance and other operating expenses, educational research, capital outlay, construction and repairs of different elementary and high school buildings, and termite control expenses.
For the 2006 Local School Board, there is a surplus of P11,345,138.13. The surplus will be realigned into supplemental budget number 2. The budget is appropriated into maintenance and other operating expenses and capital outlay.
The maintenance and operating expenses which includes additional amount for illumination power services; books/supplementary instructional materials for ESM classes, fire safety accessories for the new division office and school bags for elementary school children amounted to P6,641,012.32.
The capital outlay which includes audio system for the Social Hall, audio system for the function room of the new Division Office, additional amount for Library Hub at the Old Division Office, computers and connectivity for TIIC, Helping Foundation and OSY, repair of principal's office at the Jaro I Elementary School, repair of six classrooms at the M.V. Hechanova Memorial Elementary School, Iloilo School Board vehicle, construction of four classrooms at the two-storey building of A. Mabini Elementary School, additional amount for rehabilitation of electrical connections at Iloilo Central Elementary School and acquisition of tricycles for Navais-Borres Elementary amounted to 4,704,125.
