Barangay exec hit for refusal to cooperate with BHC
The barangay captain of Bolilao in Mandurriao district allegedly refused to cooperate with the Boarding House Commission (BHC) after the discovery of 20 boarding houses with no business permits under his turf. As this develop, the chief executive will issue a memorandum to all 180 barangay captains in the city to cooperate with the commission.
Mayor Jerry Treñas's memorandum is an off-shoot of reports that Barangay Capt. George Duron of Bolilao refused to extend help to the BHC led by Mayet Geremias.
He said barangay captains should help the commission during the inspection as it will not help him (mayor) but the students and all the boarders or renters.
The chief executive did not elaborate more on the memorandum he is going to hand down to all the barangay captains in relation to the BHC citywide inspection.
The BHC team is accompanied during the conduct of inspections by representatives from the City Health Office (CHO), City Engineer's Office (CEO) and Iloilo City Fire Service Unit.
The CHO deals on the health issues, CEO on the building matter and City Fire for the fire hazards and safety of the occupants.
Meanwhile, Duron who is a staunch supporter of Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez Sr. was not available for comment.
Geremias made a disclosure on Duron's refusal in one of media interviews.
Even before classes begun, the commission had been conducting series of inspections in areas where most number of boarding houses or apartments are located.
In recent interview, Geremias said they do not immediately impose fines or penalties to owners of boarding houses and apartments with no permits. During the consultation/information activity, owners were asked to comply with the requirements set by a city ordinance for operating a boarding house or apartments. They were given chance to settle their lapses before the imposition of fines.
