City's public school studes to get free school supplies
The city's 45,000 elementary pupils and 21,000 secondary students enrolled in public schools will receive free school supplies this opening of classes courtesy of the P1 million fund allocation from the city government.
Some of the school supplies were partially delivered to the Department of Education (DepEd) for distribution yesterday.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the P1 million came from the General Budget and the procurement of school supplies was made through a bidding. The free school supplies include notebooks, pen, papers, pencils and crayons.
The DepEd will take charge in the distribution of the free school supplies. The free-school supplies from the city government is an addition to the free-school bags to be distributed to the school children. The free school bags amounted to P4.5 million. The fund was sourced out from the Special Education Fund (SEF) of the city government.
It is not immediately known on how the DepEd will divide the school supplies to the recipients considering the number of students in the city. There is a projected two percent increase of enrollment every year in elementary and high school.
