Capiz gets 48T tree seedlings
Roxas City -- About 48,000 seedlings have been accounted by the Department of the Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Capiz from its various nursery sites in the province.
The seedlings are in Dumarao and Dumalag towns as well as at Barangay Lawaan here.
"Eighty percent of the seedlings are mahogany," said Edwin Borja, DENR-Capiz Forest Management Services Chief, noting that the remaining species include narra and acacia, among others.
Majority of the seedlings will be used in a Green Philippine Highway roadside tree planting activity while some have been reserved for distribution to requesting individuals, Borja explained.
A 40-kilometer Roll-On Roll-Off routes in the province are being targeted for roadside tree planting activity by provincial environment authorities this year. The routes include Sigma to Pilar via Panit-an and Roxas City to Panit-an roads.
Last year, the province also participated in the simultaneous nationwide tree planting activity aimed to fight global warming and continuous degradation of the environment.
The Greening Philippines program is part of the 8 by '08 economic policy direction of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo designed to bring the blessings of a growing economy to the Filipino people.
