DOH reports 508 dengue cases in WV
The Department of Health (DOH)regional office has urged the cooperation of the communities to destroy the breeding places of mosquitoes to prevent the further increase the number of dengue cases in the region.
The onset of the rainy season, Dir. Lydia Depra-Ramos warned, could increase dengue cases if the issue on cleanliness will be taken for granted.
The health official said the dengue mosquito vector, Aedes aegypti, can breed even in bottle caps or any container with stagnant clean water.
Ramos issued the call as since last week of May, the DOH in Western Visayas has already monitored 508 dengue cases.
Last year, 1, 820 dengue cases were reported in the region.
To prevent the further increase of this viral disease, the DOH asked the public to diligently practice the four o'clock habit or the cleaning of all possible breeding sites of the mosquitos.
Ramos said it is important that water containers be covered and water of flower vases be changed once a week.
It is important, she said to clean the gutters, old tires used as roof support to have holes and dispose unusable tins, cans, bottles or other items that can hold water where mosquitos can breed.
The DOH also issued the reminder in line with the observance of June as Dengue Awareness month. This year's theme is "Puksain ang Kiti-kiti, Sugpuin ang Dengue."
