Another roro system up in Guimaras soon
President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said that another economic intervention in Guimaras province in the form of another RoRo system would push further its recovery by establishing nautical highway routes to Bacolod City and Iloilo City.
President Arroyo announced in her visit recent visit to the once oil spill affected province that RoRo system would soon reach Guimaras from Bacolod City through Sibunag, Jordan, and Iloilo province.
The President stressed the urgency to complete the construction of the needed infractructure for the roll-on, roll-off or RoRo transport system from Sibunag to Jordan.
The Nautical Highway is a flagship economic program of President Arroyo. This type of transport system is a method of vessel loading and discharging in which vehicles carrying cargo or passengers are driven on and off a ship on ramps.
The said that the province of Guimaras is likewise being prepared to become "favored tourism destination" and noted that after the rehabilitation efforts initiated by both the government and private organizations, "mas marami pa ang turista ngayon compared before the Solar oil spill incident.
With ro-ro vessels, it is expected that more tourists will visit Guimaras, and the farmers and all sectors of the community will likewise benefit from the low cost of sea transportation due to the eliminated practice of manually loading and unloading of cargoes at every port.
