Bacolod City gears for Asian ICT Summit
Bacolod City -- The Bacolod Information Technology (IT) Focus Team created by Mayor Evelio Leonardia is currently preparing notes for the Asian Summit for ICT Leaders on June 27, 2007 in Cebu City.
The local delegation will be composed of government, academe and business sector representatives from Negros and Bacolod City.
Bacolod Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, head of the IT Team said that there is a need to collate the concerns of the ICT sector in Bacolod for presentation in the international summit so that the Philippine would recognize the need to strengthen the countryside in its quest to generate investments and job opportunities for all Filipinos.
Batapa-Sigue said the Information Technology (IT) Team will soon formally present its goals and strategies to generate thousands of jobs in the ICT sector to the congressmen of Negros Occidental as well as the Regional Development Council (RDC) to aggressively establish human resource development programs to sustain the sector.
She said the ICT industry is one of the fastest growing in the Philippines, and in order to sustain it, region, with Bacolod as the host, need to attract high value sub sectors such as software development, transcription, animation, game development , auto-CAD, encoding and other forms of BPO's, knowledge process outsourcing (KPO's) and legal process outsourcing (LPO's).
The summit is part of the Cebu ICT Conference from June 26-28 this year, featuring top executives from world's leading ICT (information and communications technology) and BPO (Business process outsourcing) firms, suppliers and associations as speakers and panelists in plenary sessions.
This event intends to bring together significant ICT and BPO stakeholders throughout Asia to discuss their vision for sustaining and accelerating the transformation of Asia into the world's premier IT investment destination and global outsourcing center.
