Capiz revenue officers warn tax evaders
Roxas City -- The government's revenue collection agency is stepping up its campaign to weed out tax evaders.
Information Officer Ma. Gracia Balgos of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) in Capiz disclosed that they have started their survey of unregistered establishments in the various municipalities and barangays in the province.
Balgos explained that this activity is part of their tax campaign in order to ensure that exact tax are remitted to the government coffers.
After the survey, they will conduct tax mapping, she said, stressing that this will determine violations on failure to register, non-issuance of official receipts and keeping of updated book of accounts.
Balgos, who is also Tax Payer Section Chief here, appeals for the support and cooperation of the local government units in the province to help the BIR in their tax campaign by requiring applicants for licenses to pass through their municipal revenue collection offices before approval of said application.
Recently, Malacañang disclosed that new revenues, better collection of revenues and a crackdown on tax cheats, along with fiscal discipline, have put the Philippines on a path to permanent economic growth and stability.
These economic moves strengthened the government's capacity to increase investments in education, healthcare and social services along with the construction of new bridges, roads and ports to upgrade the country's competitiveness, Malacañang said.
Accordingly, the government's revenue collection got a boost with a P100 million assistance from Sweden.
The trust fund, Malacañang said, will be used for the development of statistics-gathering program, including tax mapping that would be useful in weeding out tax evaders.
Malacañang revealed that the trust fund will further strengthen the many good tax laws and revenue collection program in the country.
