Negros Occidental rice, corn production survey set
Negros Occidental -- The Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) here will be conducting a Rice and Corn Production Survey on July 1 to 10, Provincial Agricultural Statistician Joely Cabarles, said.
The survey will validate data gathered during the 2nd quarter as well as give a forecast for the 4th quarter rice and corn production based on the farmers' intention to plant.
Cabarles appealed to farmers to give the true data or information to BAS data collectors as it has been reported during previous surveys that some farmers hesitated to give accurate information for fear of being used against them, like tax purposes.
"Data gathered will be considered confidential and the survey result will be used by policy makers in their decision making," he assured.
Cabarles has scheduled a one-day orientation to data collectors on June 25 to prepare them for the conduct of the survey.
He said previous data showed positive growth in harvest of rice and corn due to interventions made by government agricultural offices, although, he stressed that the province is still far from self-sufficient in rice production.
