Dengue downs 5 in Iloilo City
The Iloilo City Health Office (CHO) here has confirmed the deaths of five children due to dengue.
The CHO here was able to monitor 35 cases from the period January to June this year with five recorded deaths.
Two deaths were recorded in January and one each in February, April and June.
A six-month old baby girl from Arevalo is the youngest casualty while a 10-year old boy from Zone 2-San Juan is the eldest.
Other casualties are two-year old boy from Molo Boulevard, nine-year old girl from Bakhaw, Mandurriao and another four-year old boy from Veterans Village, City Proper.
Health Officer, Dr. Urminico Baronda declared the situation alarming adding that the cases are higher this year when compared with the same period last year.
From January to June 2006, the CHO has recorded 26 cases with three deaths. A total of 139 cases was documented for the entire year.
Dr. Baronda again called on the public to observe cleanliness and don't hesitate to go to the nearest clinic or hospitals if any member of their families are experiencing fever.
