PRO 6 holds 12th Police-Community Relations Month
July 1-30 is Police-Community Relations Month. The main thrust of the celebration is the strengthening of the rapport of police and the people particularly on resolving issues and other matters affecting the peace and order in the community.
Since 2005, the PCR month is celebrated every July instead of January. It is pursuant to Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Presidential Proclamation No. 764 in January 24, 2005 amending Presidential Proclamation No. 783. The rationale for the amendment is to coincide the celebration with observance of Disaster Prevention Awareness Month which is also held every July.
Chief Supt. Wilfredo V. Dulay Sr. said the PCR Month Celebration is a good opportunity for the PNP to further strengthen police-community relationship, particularly in the police station that provides direct link of service to the community.
This year's theme is "Ugnayan ng Kapulisan at Mamayan: Susi sa Kapayapaan at Kaunlaran."
During the kick off ceremony at Camp Delgado yesterday, Director Honey Paredes of Napolcom Region VI emphasized that the month-long celebration is intended "to generate greater awareness and appreciation of the importance closer interaction between the community and the police in handling peace and other problems and the direct and immediate impact of police functions on the quality of life and security of the citizenry." The Napolcom is the lead agency for this activity while the PNP serves as the implementing arm.
Meanwhile, Paredes also announced the launching of the search for the Most Citizen-Friendly Police Station 2007. Winners in this search will receive cash prizes.
