New councilors to give inaugural speeches
Three first timer councilors will be heard in today's regular session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod. This is the first session to be attended by the new set of elective city officials. They will be given the chance to have their inaugural speeches.
Councilors Lyndon Acap, Eldrid Antiquiera and Lex Tupas will have their privilege to speak before their fellow councilors and supporters. Acap and Antiquiera belongs to the administration party while Tupas is from the opposition group.
Acap, Antiquiera, and Tupas are among the new faces at the city council. Councilor Antonio Pesina who was also elected is not new to the city council. He has served as councilor for one term then run for vice mayor in 2004 but lost. The other councilors who were reelected are Councilors Eduardo Peñaredondo, Armand Parcon, Julienne Baronda, Ely Estante, Erwin Plagata, Perla Zulueta, Jeffrey Ganzon and Jose Espinosa III.
Vice Mayor Jed Mabilog will also have his inaugural speech. As vice mayor, he will be the presiding officer. The responsibility of being the presiding officer is not already new to Mabilog since he was also given the opportunity to act as presiding officer during the time of former Vice Mayor Guillermo de la Llana.
In earlier interview, Mabilog said they will not tackle any issue in today's opening session of the city council. He said they will start their legislative work in next week's session.
