NSO 6 taps 3,670 enumerators for population census
The regional office of the National Statistics Office (NSO) based here in this city bared that around 3,670 hired enumerators will augment their field staff as they start counting the region's populace on August 1, 2007.
The NSO has designated August 1, 2007 as the reference date for the 2007 Census of Population (POPCEN) in the country that aims to make a complete count of all residents, both Filipinos (including overseas workers) and foreigners, who have stayed or are expected to stay for at least a year in the Philippines.
The 2007 POPCEN will also include gathering of basic information about each individual such as age, sex, marital status, education, and other demographic characteristics.
As part of their preparations for the 2007 POPCEN, the NSO 6 is currently conducting a trainor's training at Punta Villa, Iloilo City. The said training is participated in by about 30 staff from the different NSO provincial offices in the region and will end on July 13.
"This is already the 2nd level of the trainings of trainers as the 1st level was already done last month in Manila. Various trainings up to the 4th level are scheduled which will bring down training to the municipal level for the hired enumerators who will act as census-takers and supervisors," said NSO6 Asst. Statistician Arlene Bagoning.
Bagoning, likewise requested the support and assistance of other government agencies, local government units and the private sector in other 2007 POPCEN related-activities to ensure the success of this nationwide data-gathering activity.
"We are also requesting the cooperation of every household when our authorized census enumerators wearing official POPCEN 2007 IDs visit and interview them," said Bagoning.
Under the 2007 POPCEN, the gathering of the population data will be done through house-to-house visits and personal interview of the household respondent. The census enumeration will last for about 25 days.
According to the NSO since the turn of the 20th century, eleven censuses of population have already been undertaken and the last one was conducted in May 2000 where the country's population was placed at 76.5 million.
