Prizes at stake for Pretty Plaza, Banwa Gwapa contest
Cash prizes are at stake for the Pretty Plaza, Banwa Gwapa contest. The contest is open for all the city's different plazas as well as those plazas located in the different towns of Iloilo which are included in the Metro Iloilo Guimaras Economic Development Council (MIGEDC).
City Tourism head Ben Jimena said the prizes at stake for the lone winner in the city category is P100,000. He said Mayor Jerry Treñas only wanted to have one winner in the city. While, prizes in the MIGEDC areas such as Guimaras, Leganes, Oton, Pavia, San Miguel and Sta. Barbara varies.
The grand prize winner for the MIGEDC areas is P50,000. There will be five secondary prizes. Each winner in the secondary prize will receive P20,000.
Jimena said the city government will give the P100,000 cash prize for the city search. The Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) will also give P100,000. The remaining cash prizes for the MIGEDC areas will be taken cared off by the MIGDEC.
The contest will start from August until October. Each plaza will be evaluated on three occasions, during each month of the contest. The evaluations will be unannounced and scored according to first evaluation, second evaluation, third evaluation and final presentation. A 20 percent score will be given on the first evaluation; 20 percent for the second evaluation; 40 percent for the third evaluation and 10 percent for final presentation.
Each participating plaza will be judged according to cleanliness, beautification, safety and security and usefulness and sustainability.
