Comelec drops disqualification case vs Estancia mayor
Disqualification raps against a newly-elected northern Iloilo town mayor has been dismissed by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) following a decision reached by the Commission's Second Division.
As such, it is "pure victory" for retired Police General Restituto Mosqueda over former Estancia Mayor Rene Cordero.
No further details were readily available on the Comelec's decision however for Mayor Mosqueda, it was a much-awaited and long-expected development.
The new mayor said he was confident from day one on the defense put up by his legal team as he dismissed the charges as lodged against as mere harassments.
"I am overwhelmed with the tremendous show of support all over Estancia and since day one when I assumed office, it was all hard work for us now. Elections are way over so let us allow the people's will to prevail. Let us respect the mandate of the people," Mayor Mosqueda said.
Yet it is not total defeat for Cordero's camp. Cordero counsel, lawyer Cornelio Panes when reached for comment said the legal battle is not yet over.
Panes said a Motion for Reconsideration has been filed before the Comelec and is up for deliberation.
