MIWD saves P74 M in rehabilitation project
Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) has saved some P74 million in its P207 million rehabilitation program.
MIWD Board of Director Atty. Eduardo Aguillon said the P74 million savings will be spent in other proposed projects in line with the water district's rehabilitation program. The proposed projects are deemed important in improving the water district's service to its consumers.
The proposed additional projects include the construction of by-pass line at the water treatment plant amounting to P1.1 million; construction of reservoir and treatment facility with booster pump station in Oton amounting to P1.1 million and another one in Leganes for P5 million.
The other projects are the installation of Pavia-Jaro transmission pipelines amounting to P16.1 million; improvement of dam intake and riverbank protection; construction of booster pump station and sump tank for Oton and San Miguel well fields and loop lines to balance system pressure; construction of gas station and warehouse and chemical storage buildings amounting to P10 million and construction of 200-cubic meter elevated tank for Sta. Barbara and Pavia.
Aguillon attributed the savings to the scheme they employed in the implementation of the rehabilitation program. He said, the water district was able to get the lowest cost and got the best and lowest price in the procurement of materials.
In last Monday's press conference, Aguillon clarified that the P207 million is the total cost of the rehabilitation program. Part of the P207 million is a loan from the Japan Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC). The loan was released through the Development Bank of the Philippines and Philippine National Bank. Of the P207 million, P21 million is the MIWD's equity and the P186 million comes from a loan.
In an earlier press conference, the MIWD top brass reported to the media that the P186 million is a loan from the Asian Development Bank. However, it was refuted by Aguillon saying the loan proposal they have with the Asian Development Bank was denied.
