The worsening condition of Molo plaza
(The following is an excerpt of a letter sent by a concerned citizen to CENRO Noel Hechanova and City Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.)
The "landscape" of this district has tremendously changed through the years pertinent to its population growth with the same infrastructure e.g. road width. Every month of July each year, it gets worse due to the annual celebration of St. Anne's Feast on July 26th of each year. At this time of the year, other than contending with the rainy season, we have to contend with an "overcrowded plaza", that leads to the difficult maintenance and upkeep of the plaza. With vendors on all four sides, very few may appreciate the beauty of Molo plaza and landmark St. Anne's Church.
SAFETY, other than CLEANLINESS becomes a major concern. Petty theft is on the rise which may pave the way to other more dangerous acts/crimes.
The city is now formulating its 5-year tourism masterplan where Molo district may play a major role in this project but how can we with "unregulated vending"?
With the Iloilo Flood Control project in Carpenter's bridge in Tabucan, Mandurriao, oncoming traffic through Locsin Street in Molo should be better flowing if the Locsin side was vendor-free. At the stoplight junction, vehicles wanting to turn left no longer have "peripheral vision," because there were no open spaces left in that corner.
Even without the fiesta, there has been apparent abuse of trisikads waiting for passengers inside a gasoline station, provincial and city PUJs "cutting" through from Avanceña through Locsin... sometimes at "high speed," loading and unloading inside the gasoline station blocking its pump ingress. We have been supportive to as many programs of the ABC president, Brgy. Capt. Segundina Morales.
Two years ago, our city mayor through our city administrator has promised a "cleaner and compressed," area for the Molo fiesta but each year, it gets more crowded, upkeep not maintained and safety likewise regressing.
