PhilHealth maternity care benefits now in RHUs
Mothers who are enjoying the facilities of the rural health units (RHU) in the various towns in Capiz may now avail of the maternity care package benefits of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).
Dr. Elmer Bucayan, Department of Health (DOH) representative in Capiz, said that PhilHealth accredited RHUs may now be paid by said corporation the maternity care package of P4,500 per delivery up to three normal deliveries.
Bucayan stressed that with the payment of maternity benefits to RHUs, said birthing facilities could become self-sustaining and could be part of the local government unit's economic enterprise.
Capiz PhilHealth head Frederick Diaz said that two RHUs in the province were already accredited by their office, namely in Dumalag and President Roxas.
Diaz said that the application for accreditation of the RHUs of Dao and Jamindan, including that of Roxas City Health Office, are underway.
He added that aside from the maternity care package, their office is also granting P1,000 for the newborn care package, where newborn babies are required to undergo newborn screening to detect preventable diseases at the early stage.
PhilHealth is also granting benefit claims under its Tuberculosis- Directly Observed Treatment Short course (TB-DOTS) care package, Diaz said, pointing out that they have accredited 15 RHUs under said program.
Earlier, the government vowed to consolidate the gains it has achieved by making long overdue investments in human and physical infrastructure as part of the social payback to the public.
Accordingly, billions of pesos from the government's economic gains are set to be poured in health care, education, new bridges, roads and ports to upgrade the competitiveness of the Philippines.
