CEAP 6 reg'l assembly set
Administrators, teachers, and student leaders from more than 115 member-schools of the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) -- Western Visayas are expected to come to Iloilo on August 9 to 11, 2007 for this year's regional assembly.
Father Manuel M. Vergara, O.S.A, president and regional director of CEAP-Western Visayas, revealed that, for the first time, the regional assembly will have three component assemblies: the CEAP Teachers' Congress on August 9 at the University of San Agustin, the CEAP Youth Congress on August 9 and 10 at the Holy Rosary Reflection Center in Calumpang, Molo, and the Administrators' Assembly on August 11 at the University of San Agustin.
In the Teachers' Congress, on August 9, delegates will interact with three resource persons. Dr. Nora Legaspi of the Catholic Teachers' Guild of the Philippines will present a paper on "The Catholic Teacher. She will be followed by Atty. Ulpiano "Ulan" Sarmiento III, prominent author of the Manual for Private Schools, who will talk on "The Professional Teacher. The last speaker is Dr. Leoncio Deriada, 2000 Metrobank Outstanding Teacher, who will deliver a discourse on "The Outstanding Teacher."
In the Youth Congress, on August 9-10, the theme is "Catholic Youth: Gearing Up for Leadership in Society." Fr. Esperidion "Boy" Celis will give a talk on the philosophical and theological foundations of leadership. The talk will be followed by a series of mini-lectures and structured learning exercises to be facilitated by Prof. Eric Divinagracia, Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines awardee, and Prof. Mona Pico, Training Officer at the University of San Agustin who is a former municipal councilor. Fr. Celis is scheduled to preside at the Jerusalem Mass on the second day to mark the culmination of the two-day overnight congress.
On Saturday, August 11, school heads and supervisors will gather at the University of San Agustin for the annual General Assembly. Father Vergara will present his President's Report. Atty. Sabino Padilla Jr., CEAP Legal Counsel, will provide Updates on Legal Issues Affection the Education Sector. He will be followed by Mr. Antonio Jon, chairman of the Iloilo Business Club, who will speak on Corporate Social Responsibility: Challenges to Catholic Schools. Ms. Zen Dimalanta of the ABS-CBN Foundation will then talk on the possible areas for collaboration between schools and private business in the exercise of corporate social responsibility.
Father Vergara said that the invitation to the assembly is extended to non-CEAP member-schools, which might find the topics useful to their officials, faculty and students.
