Phivolcs urged to get out of Anini-y Hot Spring
Anini-y Mayor Rene Policar is hoping that the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) will donate their volcanic monitoring equipment to the municipal government.
Policar said the earthquake monitoring equipment placed near the Siraan Hot Spring is non-functional and is deemed as an eyesore to the tourist spot. The equipment was installed at the vicinity of the spring years ago to keep track of any volcanic movement.
Policar, however, could not say yet on what they are going to do with the equipment as soon as it is removed from the vicinity and turned-over to the municipal government.
Anini-y is 40.46 kilometers away from San Jose Buenavista, the capital town of the province. While, Siraan Hot Spring is two kilometers away from the poblacion. A nearby Nogas Island is also an added tourist attraction in the town. The island is uninhabited marine and bird sanctuary which has excellent coral reefs and perfect for scuba diving and snorkeling.
Local townfolks believed that there is a volcano near the spring because of the presence of sulfur in its waters.
Policar added that they want the Siraan Hot Spring to be on the priority list of the tourist who wants to enjoy the hot spring, snorkeling and scuba diving.
The mayor added there is so much to be done in the Siraan Hot Spring other than the removal of the monitoring equipment of Phivolcs. The town also needs the financial assistance from the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) and funds from the CDF of their congressman aside from its local funding, said Policar.
