Northern Panay may experience below normal rainfall -- PAGASA
The northern Panay Island is expected to experience below normal rainfall conditions along with central and southern Mindanao.
This was disclosed by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA-Manila) for its August forecast.
On the other hand, the PAGASA said, above normal rainfall may be experienced in most areas of Southern Tagalog region, most parts of Visayas, Palawan and the remaining parts of Mindanao.
The PAGASA expects the dry spell to continue in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union, Albay and Sorsogon.
Director Larry Nacionales of the Department of Agriculture (DA VI) when ask to react to the PAGASA forecast, said that Western Visayas is fairly experiencing a favorable weather condition which is why the Secretary of the Department of Agriculture has considered Panay along with Southern Mindanao and Central Mindanao to help offset the projected losses in the four drought-affected regions in Luzon.
During the recent LEDAC Meeting President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo said the dry spell, deliver a wake-up call for our generation to urgently embark upon a determined and well-funded wide-ranging strategic initiative to conserve resources even as we strive for development.
The President instructed the Department of Energy and Environment, along with the NEDA, to work with Congress and key sectors of society to draw up a comprehensive approach to the problem of climate change through a package of policies and programs designed to progressively reduce the usage of water and energy per unit of farm, factory and other economic output.
