5,939 drivers apprehended in July
Some 5,939 drivers were apprehended for various offenses by metro traffic enforcers in July this year, the traffic management and engineering unit reported recently.
In a monthly report submitted to Mayor Jerry P. Treñas, licensing-in-charge Carlos Thompson, Jr. said the apprehensions also made the city coffers richer by P393,910.00 in fines and penalties which the erring drivers paid.
Thompson, Jr. said the biggest number of arrests occurred in July 23rd with a total of 469 drivers caught and P30, 320.00 collected in fines while the least number of drivers caught was in July 4th with only 159 motorists apprehended and only P10, 050.00 in collection.
Meanwhile, Treñas urged all drivers in the city to observe proper traffic rules and regulations to avoid fines and inconvenience. He stressed that the smooth flow of vehicular traffic will not only redound to everyone's benefit, but will also cut fuel losses caused by traffic standstills.
Treñas recently created a Technical Working Group that will conceptualize the city's Transport and Traffic Management Master Plan (TMMP). "With the finalization of the TMMP, we should expect a significant let-up on the traffic flow in the major thoroughfares but as motorists let us not forget to follow basic road coutesies when driving to avoid unnecessary traffic," Treñas further added.
