Soon, the city government will have a complete list of areas in the city which are considered flood prone.
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city government and the Philippine Atmospheric Geo-physical Services Administration-Department of Science and Technology (PAGASA-DOST) will be conducting Flood Hazard and Vulnerability Mapping as part of the city's disaster preparedness program.
As its initial move, the city government has allocated P200,000 for the mapping project.
The funding is the city's share while the technical expertise in the identification of flood prone and vulnerable areas will come from the PAGASA-DOST. There is no definite time for the conclusion of the mapping operation.
Earlier, the city disaster council has identified several barangays considered as flood prone. These low-lying barangays are mostly located near the river banks in Jaro, Molo, Arevalo and in La Paz districts. The mapping will update the list of barangays considered as flood prone areas.
Flooding is a major concern in the city especially during the typhoon season.
