Aklan LGU asks how to use its P16-million environment fee collection
BORACAY ISLAND, Aklan -- The local government of Malay here still has to decide on how it will dispose of its more or less P16-million environmental fee collection.
Malay councilor Dante Suguiron disclosed that there are no clear programs or environment-related projects to which the fund should be appropriated or spent for.
Suguiron, who chairs the town council's environment committee and author of the ordinance requiring tourists who pass the jetty port to pay P50 as environment fee, said before the money will be released stakeholders should first present a project proposal before the Sangguniang Bayan of Malay.
Meantime, Vice-Gov. Billie Calizo was informed by Malay Mayor Ciceron Cawaling that they plan to purchase equipment for solid waste management in the island.
The LGU needs at least P30 million to purchase the needed equipment.
