Tanods commended for maintaining peace and order
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas yesterday commended active metro barangay tanods for their continuing assistance in maintaining peace and order in their respective communities.
The commendation was voiced by the mayor during the monthly meeting of the Iloilo City Peace and Order Council (ICPOC) held at the executive office and attended by the city's barangay chiefs and other ICPOC members.
"We do not have enough police personnel to assign in each barangay so the initiative of the tanods to watch over their respective areas is a great help," Treñas said.
The mayor also said that the city's police personnel only works by shifts and can not possibly cover each of the 180 barangays at all times.
"Nevertheless, we continue to beef up our police force by providing them with new patrol cars and handheld radios for faster communication through the city and private donations," Treñas added.
The city government acquired 3 patrol cars last year for the use of the mobile police in La Paz, Arevalo and Molo districts. Next year, four more are expected to be added to ensure that each district will have new patrol vehicles.
Treñas is also planning to acquire 4 motorbikes the city's SWAT team which they will use to patrol crime-prone areas.
"I hope that our barangay officials and the city police continue working together to ensure the safety of our residents. The presence of authorities significantly discourages the commission of crimes," Treñas stated.
