City solid waste management board reconstituted
Wanting to expand the involvement of the private sector in solid waste issues, Mayor Jerry P. Treñas has reconstituted the Iloilo City Solid Waste Management Board (ICSWMB) to include new members.
"Involving the private sector in our various development projects, including solid waste management endeavors, will definitely enhance the board';s current capability to challenge and address development issues," Treñas said.
The new ICSWMB is composed of Treñas as the chair; Ma. Luisa Segovia as the co-chair and official alternate; and Councilor Eldrid Antiquiera as the vice-chair.
The board members Marilen Locsin (chair of the Task Force Clean and Green), Director Bienvenido Lipayon of EMB-DENR VI, Father Rolando Haguisan from the religious sector, Engrs. Helen Sotomil and Aurora Lim representing the academe, Lydia Pendon (chair of the Iloilo City Hall Press Corps), Neonita Gobuyan from the press, general services officer (GSO) Agustin Sangrador, assistant GSO Raul Gallo, city environment and natural resources officer Noel Hechanova, city planning and development coordinator Jose Roni Peñalosa, city engineer Marito Amatorio, all Association of Barangay Captains presidents and representatives from the city police office.
The main function of the board is to prepare and implement plans and programs for the safe and sanitary management of solid wastes generated in areas under the city';s jurisdiction.
Some of their specific tasks include developing strategies that will aid the implementation of the SWM Sub-sector Plan which is part of the 1998-2010 Iloilo City Comprehensive Land Use Plan; integrating various SWM plans and approaches of barangays; adopting revenue-generating ways to ensure viability and sustainability of city';s SWM programs; and coordinating various barangays efforts in the implementation of community-based waste management activities.
