* Fishing tests your resistance and patience under the blazing heat of the sun
Fishing has become a popular recreation for many. The primary reward for recreational fishing is not the monetary value of the catch or for food but the challenge of finding a fish and capturing it.
Basically, food-fishing is different from sports fishing in terms of strategies and tactics used in catching fish. The style varies from the environmental factors and the fish you are trying to catch.
Sports fishing competitions are usually held yearly for sport fishing enthusiasts. The player is given a specific time and area where he must utilize in capturing a fish. The winner is decided through the weight and species of the catch. Also a factor is the equipment used. If the fishing line is thinner and weaker ,extra points shall be given to the winner.
One sport fishing enthusiast I met is Ludovico Betila Jr. a.k.a. "Jing". He started fishing last January 2006 because of curiosity every time he pass by the bridge going to Gaisano. His curiosity and the influence of some friends drove him to give the sport a try.
One day, after countless efforts, he caught a snapper. Unfortunately, it only weighed 1.5 kilos.
His first investments in this hobby are the Pioneer 72-inch fishing rod, which cost more or less P2,000 and Tisa fishing reel, which costs P2,600.
The Iloilo Anglers Association is the mother head of all the minor teams of the group of sports fishing enthusiasts. Jing is a member of the Thread Fin, which is associated with the said association. This has 18 active members. The task of the team is to fulfill the passions of some of Ilonggos who wish to have an alliance to explore more places for fishing. Once or twice a month, they venture to Guimaras to explore the sea and try to catch the fish of their dreams.
Jing also goes fishing during Sundays as a form of stress-buster and recreation.
This hobby is not expensive. Fishing tests your resistance and patience under the blazing heat of the sun. You must have a passion for what you do in order to withstand obstacles.
